New year, new masks in New York. Goaltenders Henrik Lundqvist and backup Igor Shestyorkin both debut new masks during the first game of the 2020-21 season. Lundqvist, keeping in tradition with his previous themes, went with a spiked crown, calling back to his Swedish homeland, with the Rangers shield on the side of the helmet. Shestyorkin on the other hand, decided to go a little more modern, with an image of Marvel's Venom in Rangers red and blue. Rangers goalie coach Benoit Allaire has said that both goaltenders changing styles will hopefully signal a change in net, seeing as how the Rag's previous season went less than great.

After a rookie year where he finished 16-13-1, Carter Hart returns to the Flyers for his sophmore year with a new mask. Hart, a Marvel fan, showcases the mask which has the character Venom and his enemy Carnage, done in Flyers black and orange.

Arguably the most famous mask ever worn in hockey history has a new home. And it comes at an extremely high price. Collector Daniel Wickenheiser has snatched up the mask once worn by Boston Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers at a private auction held by Lelands Sports Memorabilia and Card Auctions for a whopping $3.4 million dollars USD. Wickenheiser has said it will stay in his private collection and will not be moved again. Wickenheiser, 54, has a collection of over 150 game used masks, many used in the NHL. Hockey Hall Of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur will be signing autographs this upcoming thursday, August 27th at the Nike Factory Store in the Mills at Jersey Gardens. The signings will begin at 10:00 AM EST and will go to 1:30 PM, wherein there will be a half hour break, followed by fan photos from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Prices for signings will be $40.00 for small items, $60.00 for large items, photos are $50.00 each, or $80.00 for both. Photos and sticks are avaliable for purchase at the store. Please only bring items related to the New Jersey Devils Hockey Club. Any items can be declined to be autographed or photographed at Mr. Brodeur's discretion.

One of the more fascinating stories in NHL history, Sportsnet will be debuting a documentary about the life and career of former Oilers goaltender Grant Fuhr, on channel 217 in Canada. Arriving on the big NHL stage at the age of 19 quickly established himself as one of the league's greats, backstopping the Oilers to a dynsaty that is only matched by the 1976-1979 Islanders. With special guests from Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and an interview with Fuhr himself, Coco dives into a retirement threat at the age of 26, a demotion to the minors after calling Edmonton fans "Jerks", and a year-long suspension from the NHL for substance abuse, only to return and become the ultimate money goalie.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is donating the pink mask he wore during a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche to the Michigan Center For Breast Cancer Research based in Grand Rapids. The MCBCR is expected to put the mask up for auction, with all proceeds going to the study of and elimation of breast cancer. Click here for more info. Howard, who lost his mother-in-law to breast cancer two years ago, has been helping the MCBCR for several years.

Jake Oettinger backstopped Team USA to gold at the U-21 International Tournament in Wisconsin, making 27 saves for a shutout, and a 3-0 win over Team Sweden. Oettinger, who was drafted by the Dallas Stars 26th overall in the 2017 draft, is projected to the Stars' goalie of the future, and finished the tournament 8-1-1 with a GAA of 1.89 and two shutouts. Oettinger said after the win "My team did a great job in front of me, clearing pucks and giving me the best view at all the incoming shots."
